Integrated Wastewater Treatment and Reuse Facility

A major wastewater treatment and reuse facility serving two metropolitan governorates, developed under a 25-year BOT concession. The original plant provided 267,000 m³ per day of treatment capacity, with treated effluent reused for agricultural irrigation and substantial on-site energy recovery from biogas and hydropower. Financing combined development-agency grants, government funding, project-company equity and commercial lending.

A later expansion increased capacity further, mobilising a mix of development-finance, private and government funding. The expanded facility generates much of its own electricity and treats a large majority of national wastewater volumes.

MZA’s predecessor organisation held an exclusive agency relationship with an international contracting group, with an international engineering firm listed in the project reference group, on a privately structured treatment opportunity within this environment.
